Planning Process

FCCLA
Planning Process Summary Page

The Planning Process is a five-step process to help members in FCCLA
plan community events, fundraisers, and competitive events with efficiency. It helps them identify the concerns that spark an idea for their project, set a goal for what they want to accomplish, form a plan to achieve that goal, act on that plan, and finally follow up to evaluate and determine the success of their project. By utilizing the planning process, members will be able to effectively plan for everything in their future

Step One - Identify Concerns
In this step, you will first need to brainstorm concerns within your community or school. Then, narrow it down to one concern you want to focus on.

- My concern as chapter president is that very little information is provided about FCCLA to my school and community. After I leave, I want to make sure that the new president is set up for success. Due to a lack of information, students are unaware of activities, events, the benefits of joining, or even that the organization exists or what FCCLA stands for.  Community members, including parents and businesses, are unaware of how the student organization can benefit the community, the impact FCCLA can have on students' personal development and career readiness, and how individuals and businesses can support the students and activities through sponsorships and other opportunities.

Step Two - Set a Goal
During the second step, you will need to set a goal of what you want to accomplish while facing the concern. Write it down, then evaluate it, to make sure it is a SMART goal.

- My goal is to create a website that is well-designed, easy to navigate, and provides all the basic information about FCCLA, focusing on our chapter's activities, opportunities, and achievements.  I want to have the website created by the end of the first semester, so students will still have a chance to join before the affiliation deadline, members will have a place to gather resources and not miss important dates during the busy spring semester, and community members and businesses will have a chance to recognize our achievements and sponsor our more expensive activities associated with competitions and leadership conferences.

Step Three - Form a Plan
After identifying the concern and setting a goal, you must develop a plan. The plan must address your concern and help you meet your goal. It will need to be specific and realistic so you can follow it in step 4. The plan includes the who, what, when, where, why, and how.

Below is my plan:
- WHO? Our school (students, members, and faculty) and our community (parents/families and businesses).
- WHAT? I want to provide information about FCCLA to students and community members through a well-organized, effective website.
- WHEN? The website will be complete, up to date, and ready to share by the end of the first Semester of the 2025-2026 school year.  Throughout my time in FCCLA, I will update the information as necessary and ensure the website continues to make a positive impact after I graduate by granting others ownership rights to continue managing it.
- WHERE? Online, accessible to everyone.
- WHY? To increase membership and involvement within our chapter, while building more community relationships and potential sponsorships needed to pursue higher levels of leadership training and experiences.
- HOW? First, I will complete my planning process, so I have my entire project mapped out.  I will use the free version of WIX, so there will be no cost. I will also have access to resources, including my school-issued iPad, computers in the library, and my personal electronic devices, so I do not need to purchase or gather any other supplies.  Then, I will choose a design that is both fun and professional. Once I have a theme, it is time to start creating the website. I will make sure to follow the rubric carefully. Finally, I will ask peers and adults for advice on improving the website's functionality, design, and layout, and use their feedback to refine it.  I will further evaluate my website by determining if our membership and sponsorship amounts have increased.

Step Four - Act
With your plan formed, you now need to follow it by taking action. When implementing your plan, try to follow it exactly, but know that not everything will go to plan.

- First, I completed the first part of my planning process, so I had a plan to follow. Then I realized I didn't know much about creating a website, so I researched what makes a good website and learned different strategies of efficiency and effectiveness. Next, I chose a template and started building my website, following the rubric closely while ensuring I added all the elements I needed to accomplish my goal. I made it a regular part of my daily routine to either research, collect information and pictures, or add content to the website so I made steady progress toward completing my goal of having the website done by the end of the semester. Finally, I asked my advisor, art teacher, and peers for advice and then implemented their suggestions and modified things based on their critiques.

Step Five - Follow Up
You will look at the success of your plan. Did it meet your goals? Fix your concern? After reviewing all of this, thank your sponsors and recognize the participants.

- At the end of the semester, I had a website that could be shared with my school and community. However, I continued adding more material and refining the website throughout January in response to additional feedback. Currently, my plan is still ongoing. While I am pleased with the result and have received praise from my peers and adult mentors, I still need to continue sharing the website to reach more people.  However, membership numbers and involvement have already begun to increase! If I were to improve the process of building the website, I would have planned the order in which I built the pages, so I could be more efficient, and meet the timeline for my goal.
